Dan Faine is an artist, printmaker and co-founder of Dark Matter Studio, a boutique London-based print studio.
He grew up surrounded by artists, working at various times for the family business, the legendary Coriander Studio, founded by his father Brad Faine, in 1972.
After graduating from the University of Brighton with a degree in Fine Art, he worked as a painter for the artist Patrick Hughes at his London studio, Reverspective.
In 2007 he returned to work full time at Coriander Studio, where he mastered the art of both screen and digital printmaking, working directly with a host of artists including Richard Hamilton, Sir Peter Blake, Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Bruce McLean, Michael Craig-Martin and Gillian Wearing, to name but a few.
When Coriander Studio changed ownership, in 2012, Dan left and founded Dark Matter Studio with fellow artist and partner Zoë Dorelli where, for 12 years they made and published limited editions, multiples and unique artworks with many world renowned artists, galleries and museums.
Since leaving art school he has continued his own practice and his work is characterised by a playful exploration in taking things out of context. Objects, isolated from their backgrounds, are captured in perspective, giving them a surreal and cartoon-like quality as they hang, suspended off the wall, or within their frames.
The colours and compositions of famous paintings are transcribed onto the simplified shapes, resulting in incongruous items which fall somewhere between a relief and a conventional two-dimensional image. Familiar and at the same time confusing, they pay homage to their original counterparts while examining to what extent these can be abstracted and yet remain identifiable.
He has recently exhibited work in London, New York and Hong Kong with TAG Fine Arts and in the spring of 2026 had his first solo show at Gloucester Room, London.
Dan is represented by TAG Fine Arts.
